Raptor (standard 35-in tires)
Our verdict
The F-150 covers more ground than any other half-ton, from fleet-spec XLs to the 720-hp Raptor R. For 4x4 use, the Tremor is the value pick, with a rear locker, 33s, Trail Turn Assist and optional automatic 4WD. The Raptor is still the benchmark for fast desert running, but it's a big, thirsty truck that costs about $79,000 before options.
Best for
Buyers who need full-size towing and want a wide choice of powertrains, plus Tremor and Raptor options for owners who really do leave the pavement.
Skip it if
You want a narrow, easy-to-place trail truck or a factory front locker; a midsize 4x4 or a Ram Power Wagon fits that job better.

Ford.com trim starts: STX $41,855, XLT $44,695, Lariat $59,560, Tremor $64,915 (4x4 only), King Ranch $65,825, Platinum $68,800, Raptor $79,005. Ford.com doesn't list a 4x4 base price. Edmunds shows an XL Regular Cab 4WD 8-ft at $42,305, but its 4x2 base ($37,290) doesn't match Ford's current figure, so the 4x4 price is left blank.

Off-road hardware
4WD / AWD system
Lower trims start as 4x2, with optional part-time 4x4 using an electronic shift-on-the-fly two-speed transfer case (2H/4H/4L). Ford's two-speed automatic 4WD system (adds 4A, an automatic mode you can leave on across mixed surfaces) with a Hi-Lock transfer case is standard on Raptor and Raptor R and optional on Tremor. All 4x4 systems include neutral towing. Ford doesn't publish the low-range ratio in its 2026 specifications.
Locking differentials
Electronic-locking rear differential: optional with 4x4 on regular trims (for example the XLT), standard on Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R. Ford's 2026 Tremor and Raptor equipment lists don't include a front locker or a front Torsen limited-slip. Earlier Tremors and the Raptor's 37-in package offered a front Torsen, so front-diff hardware for 2026 is unconfirmed.

The off-road trims
FX4 Off-Road Package
4x4-only package for regular trims; on the XLT it adds LT265/70R18 all-terrain tires, and the rear e-locker and Hill Descent Control are available alongside it.
Tremor
3.5L EcoBoost (5.0L optional), 33-in all-terrain tires on 18-in wheels, long-travel front suspension with unique control arms and knuckles, rear e-locker, Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive and Trail Turn Assist, and Rock Crawl mode.
Raptor
450-hp 3.5L HO V6, FOX Live Valve shocks (dual-valve FOX optional), coil-sprung 5-link rear, rear e-locker, standard two-speed automatic 4WD with Hi-Lock transfer case, 35-in BFGoodrich KO2 tires (37s optional), and Baja and Rock Crawl modes.
Raptor R
720-hp supercharged 5.2L V8 with dual-valve FOX shocks and 37-in all-terrain tires.
What's new for 2026
The 3.5L EcoBoost replaces the 5.0L V8 as standard on trims that used to get the V8 (except the STX Lobo). The STX drops the V8 but gets the PowerBoost option, and Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum are offered in 4x2 again. For 2027, a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 replaces the 2.7L, the V8 returns to King Ranch and Platinum, and Ford adds cheaper entry-level Tremor and Raptor versions.
