Our verdict
The Super Duty is a towing tool first, and the numbers back that up: 38,000 lb of gooseneck capacity on an F-350 dually and a 500-hp diesel. The Tremor package makes it more useful off the pavement with 35s and Rock Crawl mode, but it's still a huge truck, and Ram's Power Wagon remains the more committed factory trail rig in this class.
Best for
Heavy towing, like fifth-wheels, goosenecks and big campers, in a solid-axle 4x4 that can still handle rough ranch roads and job sites.
Skip it if
Your trailer weighs well under 13,000 lb or you mostly drive trails; an F-150 or a midsize 4x4 is cheaper and easier to live with.

Weak spots
- 85.3 in wide with the mirrors folded and very heavy, so tight trails are a problem
- No factory front locker in any 2026 material we found, and Ford doesn't publish Tremor clearance or angles
- No EPA fuel-economy ratings, and the diesel options add a lot of cost
- The headline 40,000-lb gooseneck rating belongs to the F-450 pickup, not the F-250/F-350

- 2026 F-250 XL Regular Cab 4x2 with the 6.8L gas V8, excluding destination (ford.com and Edmunds agree). Cheapest 4x4 is the F-250 XL Regular Cab 4WD long box at $48,765 (Edmunds). F-250 King Ranch and Platinum are 4x4 only and start at $78,075 and $78,965.

- Regular Cab (8-ft box), SuperCab or Crew Cab, with a 6.75- or 8-ft box depending on cab. F-250 is single-rear-wheel only; F-350 comes with single or dual rear wheels. The F-450 pickup is a separate, heavier model and isn't covered by these figures.
Off-road hardware
4WD / AWD system
Part-time 4x4 with a two-speed transfer case (2H/4H/4L) and auto/manual locking front hubs, on a solid Mono-Beam front axle with coil springs. Most trims come as 4x2 or 4x4; King Ranch and Platinum are 4x4 only. Ford doesn't publish the low-range ratio.
Locking differentials
From Ford's current off-road package descriptions (published with the 2027 lineup): the FX4 Off-Road Package (all 4x4 models) adds an electronic-locking rear differential on single-rear-wheel trucks and a limited-slip rear on dual-rear-wheel trucks. The XL Off-Road 33-in package also adds a rear e-locker, and the new-for-2027 XL Off-Road 35-in package adds a front limited-slip. Ford's 2026 pages don't list the Tremor package's differential hardware. For reference, the 2020–22 Tremor paired a rear e-locker with a Dana front limited-slip. No factory front locker was found in any 2026 material.

FX4 Off-Road Package (all 4x4 models)
Off-road shocks, Hill Descent Control, fuel-tank and transfer-case skid plates, and a rear e-locker (SRW) or limited-slip rear (DRW).
XL Off-Road 33-in Tire Package (XL SRW)
33-in all-terrain tires, rear e-locker, Rock Crawl mode, skid plates, axle vent tubes for water fording and unique front air dams.
Tremor Off-Road Package (F-250/F-350 XLT and up, 4x4)
35-in LT285/75R18 all-terrain tires, off-road-tuned suspension with 1.7-in twin-tube dampers, and Rock Crawl and Trail Control modes; 7.3L gas or 6.7L High Output diesel. For 2027 it expands to the XL and the 8-ft box.
What's new for 2026
We found no major hardware changes for 2026. For 2027, Ford adds a Carhartt package on 4x4 XLT crew cabs and opens the Tremor package to the XL and the 8-ft box. Ford's 2027 F-250 XL spec lists a 420-hp/445 lb-ft 7.3L gas V8 as standard, with the 6.7L High Output as the only diesel option.
