Our verdict
For off-road use, the Premium AWD is the Cybertruck to buy: it has the air suspension, Extract height and front and rear lockers. The Dual Motor AWD is the value play but drops to coil springs and fixed clearance. With no published angles and a long rear overhang, treat it as a capable dirt-road and moderate-trail truck rather than a rock crawler.
Best for
EV buyers who want a quick, tech-heavy truck with lockers and adjustable height for dirt roads and moderate trails.
Skip it if
You want published off-road geometry and a conventional truck to build on, or you need lockers and air suspension at the lowest price.

- Dual Motor AWD price after Tesla's Aug. 24, 2026 increase, as reported by Electrek: Dual Motor AWD $74,990, Premium AWD $84,990, Cyberbeast $99,990. The Dual Motor AWD launched in February 2026 at $59,990 and went to $69,990 on March 1. Electrek did not say whether destination is included. Every current Cybertruck is AWD.

Off-road hardware
4WD / AWD system
Electric all-wheel drive with no transfer case and no low range. Dual Motor AWD and Premium AWD use one motor per axle (EPA lists the same 223 kW and 226 kW motors for both); the Cyberbeast is tri-motor, with one front and two rear motors. Premium AWD and Cyberbeast ride on adaptive air suspension with heights from Entry to Extract (about 5.9 in above Medium); the Dual Motor AWD uses coil springs with adaptive damping and a fixed height. Steer-by-wire and four-wheel steering are standard.
Locking differentials
Premium AWD: mechanical front and rear locking differentials. Cyberbeast: mechanical front locker plus a 'virtual' rear locker created by its two rear motors, which engages automatically in certain modes and can't be switched manually. Lockers are engaged from the Off-Road app (the rear can also be engaged on-road, with speed limited to 35 mph). Tesla's manual does not say whether the new coil-sprung Dual Motor AWD has lockers.

What's new for 2026
Tesla added a coil-sprung Dual Motor AWD in February 2026 and now calls the air-suspended model Premium AWD; the rear-drive Long Range was dropped in September 2025. Prices moved repeatedly: the Cyberbeast fell from about $115,000 to $99,990 in February, and both AWD models rose $5,000 in August.
